Colleen has over thirty years of experience as a healthcare business and regulatory attorney in a broad range of areas including compliance, HIPAA privacy and security, health information technology, procurement, employee benefits, payor arrangements, transactions, and billing/reimbursement.  Colleen joined the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel in Fall 2011 after working as associate general counsel for a national health information technology corporation.  Colleen previously served as general counsel for two payor organizations in Michigan and as vice president and associate general counsel for HAP, a local southeast Michigan health maintenance organization.

Colleen’s current practice includes serving as liaison to Michigan Medicine’s Corporate Compliance department providing advice on HIPAA, security, billing, and auditing.  Additionally, Colleen works on health information technology procurement and revenue cycle matters related to Medicare appeals, ERISA, and COB activities.  Colleen also works with the University of Michigan Health System’s Quality Collaboratives and Michigan Medicine Procurement Services areas.  Colleen provides privacy and security counsel to University Health Services, the Mary Rackham Institute, the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, and various Information and Technology Services units throughout U-M.  Colleen also counsels U-M Human Resources on employee benefits matters related to health care reform and state and federal laws.

Outside of work, Colleen enjoys travel and sporting events with her family.  Colleen regularly volunteers at Focus Hope in Detroit and is active in the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers.
