Emily joined the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel in 2021. As Associate General Counsel, she primarily advises clients on commercial and business law matters. She is also responsible for advising clients on utility, energy, environmental, and regulatory law matters.
Prior to joining the OGC, Emily was a partner with Miller Canfield Paddock and Stone, PLC where she practiced from 2003 to 2021. In private practice, Emily represented clients in transactional and litigation matters involving energy, real estate, and finance. Her practice included all facets of renewable energy and real estate development, and litigation in the areas of real estate, municipal and election law, construction, and commercial and consumer lending. Before private practice, Emily clerked for Judge Cornelia Kennedy of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Emily received her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan in 2002, where she served as the Managing Article Editor for the Journal of Law Reform. She also earned a M.U.P and an A.B. degree with high honors from the University of Michigan.
Emily is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan and is an appointed member of the State Bar’s Unauthorized Practice of Law Subcommittee.
